When clouds part, what's next...

Hello Reader,

It’s been quite a week here in our region, with heavy rain and flooding in many places. We were very fortunate to avoid the worst of it, and I’ve found myself especially grateful for the sunshine that’s returned these past few days.

There’s something about weather like that that makes you pay attention to the small comforts.

Autumn is definitely making itself known in other ways too. We’ve hit cluster fly season, and every morning when I step into the studio, I seem to begin the day doing a little unexpected housekeeping before I can start work.

It has become part of the season, along with autumn tidy-ups and a few practical jobs before winter. We’re even putting a roof over our composting loo so those colder, wetter mornings are a little less bracing.

These seasonal jobs always remind me how much life is often about small preparations.

And on that note, I wanted to share something I’ll be doing through May.

Throughout May, I’ll be raising funds for the Breast Cancer Foundation New Zealand through both online and market sales, with a donation from each sale going toward their work. I extended it to include last weekend’s market as well, so the first contribution has already gone through.

It feels good to support a cause that means something, even in a small way.

Tip of the week:

With cluster flies appearing, I’ve been using a cloth to quickly wipe window sills and those little corners where dust and insects seem to gather. It’s one of those five-second jobs that makes a room feel fresher almost immediately.

Sometimes the handiest uses really are the simplest ones.

If you’d like to be part of supporting the fundraiser this month, I’d love to have you along.

Hello Reader, It’s been one of those quieter weeks. The kind where you find yourself finishing off small jobs that have been sitting in the background for a while. Tidying things up, putting things back where they belong, noticing what’s still useful and what’s ready to move on. I’ve been doing a bit of that in the kitchen too. With Earth Day coming up, I’ve been sharing a few simple swaps over the past few weeks. Nothing big, just small changes that fit into everyday life. Drying vegetables...
